March 29 2019

It's Ultra / WMC weekend.  Only fitting this week be a fatter drop of new music than usual.  40 new tracks for your listening enjoyment.

  • The playlist starts with a handful of more indie tracks.  I kicked off with a song I've had on repeat all week long, ford.'s remix of 'Places We Don't Know' by Kasbo.  I followed that up with another Foreign Fam member, Jai Wolf, who released another track of his forthcoming album.  Flume continues to demonstrate his musical maturity and development following up last week's mixtape with a new single, 'Friends' ft Reo Cragun.  And Whethan is back on a new collab with Bearson ft Soak.

  • Things start to get housey with, of all people, Diplo.  Riding his recent success releasing real house music, Diplo dropped another two house heavy tracks today.  'Hold You Tight' is the better of the two and a true viber.  Apparently, he has 6 more records like this to be released over the summer.  While the tacks are fairly standard, albeit good, house tunes, maybe Diplo's name pushing the genre will open up new audiences to quality dance music.

  • One of my favorite records of last year got a disco makeover from Bondax.  Check out his remix of Mome's 'Sail Away'.

  • Weiss enlists the vocal talent of Becky Hill for the anthemic house banger, 'Used to This'.  After making waves with MK on 'Back & Forth', it's no surprise that Ms. Hill once again finds herself working alongside one of house music's biggest names.  Speaking of MK, he dropped a remix of Ally Brooke's 'Low Key' that's pretty solid.

  • After a few more house tracks, the playlist starts to get a bit more dark and techy, with new ones from Hannah Wants, Tchami & Ibranovski, Anti Up, and Jauz & SUMR CAMP.  Things get heavier with a new collab out of Matador & ARTBAT, a remix from Mark Knight, and a release from one of my favorite labels, Knee Deep in Sound, this time dropping one from Huxley.

  • The last 20 or so songs are an ode to WMC dance floors and feature a bunch of club-ready heat, from tech house to house and some more minimal beats.  Some particularly mint tracks - Noizu 'No More', Cloone 'Be Good To Me', a remix from The Knocks on 'Mad Love', Detlef 'Get Got', Twenty21 'On My Back', and a handful of tracks off the Dirty Bird WMC compilation.

Hope this playlist takes you to the streets and beaches of Miami.

This week's playlist features music from a wide array of the electronic music spectrum, including tracks suited for everything from the mainstage to the Berlin underground.  Let's get to it.

  • Things start off a bit chiller than usual, with a mix of indie electronic and some lowkey house.  I really like this grouping of artists up front.  Phantoms and Duskus routinely put out great material.  Devault is back with another new remix, this time giving his signature sound treatment to Alessia Cara's 'Out Of Love'.  Karnaval Blues has a new record on a personal favorite label, Mind Of A Genius.  Rising underground star Peggy Gou continues her march toward more main-stream audiences (this single was on New Music Friday!!), dropping the second track on her newly minted label Gudu Records.  In a similar move, LA's Justin Jay released a 3-track EP on his very own Fantastic Voyage label.

  • The playlist heats up a with The Magician's latest single 'Ready To Love'.  I feel like there hasn't been a week in the past month without a new one from Block & Crown, and they bring the disco-house once again this week.  Yolanda Be Cool dropped a 7 (!) song remix pack of their latest single 'Dance and Chant', and I personally like the Mendo remix.  The tech picks up with new ones from Gorgon City, Eli Brown, Max Styler, and Prok & Fitch.

  • Things start gettin a little funky with the latest from J.Worra who channels major Walker & Royce vibes.  Perhaps the biggest news from the dance world this week was the long-awaited return of Flume who dropped Hi This Is Flume, a 17-track continuous mixtape of original music.  I only included one track because you really should listen from top to bottom.  For the full experience, check out this youtube that plays the mix with a visualizer by Jonathan Zawada.

  • Things start to cool off again with a batch of deeper cuts.  Highlights include new originals from Conformal and Dirty Doering, and remixes from Ant LaRock, Maya Jane Coles, and Qrion.

  • The playlist closes out with a song that didn't really fit anywhere else, but deserves to be highlighted as it comes from one of today's most talented producers, IllENIUM.  This one won't be for everyone, but he once again displays his production prowess on 'Pray'.

Hope you dig this week's playlist as much as I do.

What's up people -

Reporting live from ODESZA's Sundara festival in Tulum.  Last night Bob Moses put on another solid show, and Rufus absolutely smashed it.  Today we have dj sets from Rufus and ODESZA on deck, so gona make this quick!

  • Block and Crown continue their hot streak with another banger.

  • Jai Wolf dropped another new tune from his upcoming album.  I like this 80s infused indie-electro vibe he's been running with.

  • Malaa dropped some absolute filth with his latest 'Addiction'.

  • Mat Zo has another new one that yet again displays why this guy is one of the best in the game.

  • SG Lewis teams up with Clario again on a new one that's a pretty mellow viber .

  • Always gotta support Pete Tong when he drops a new one.

  • Jan Blomqvist has a new one that remains true to his signature sound while also taking on some new elements that give it a fresh overhaul.

All in all, this drop is filled with some real solid music top to bottom.

Gotta go catch Rufus at the pool.

Whats up whats up -

This week's playlist follows a familiar formula I've been using.  Up top, the playlist leans more indie electronic before getting into some disco-house vibes, and then takes a darker turn towards that filthy tech-house.  Let's get to it.

  • I had to kick-off this week with a song that's close to my heart.  Shout out to my brother Connor and the team on this one - LZRD dropped their biggest track yet with 'Anything Anymore'.  Months of hard work went into this song, and Jake Miller came through big on the vocals.  Shouts to Proximity on the release and Spotify for the Friday Cratediggers playlisting.

  • MEMBA released their debut track as official membas of the Foreign Family Collective.  These guys have worked on a lot of material for other artists in the collective and served up a solid remix on ODESZA's A Moment Apart pack.  This one sounds right at home on the label.

  • TWO LANES continue their rise with a new one entitled 'Back Down'.  I'm really liking this one.

  • On the disco / vibey house front, Paige delivers a fresh cover of the classic 80's tune 'Genius of Love'.  A little known personal favorite of mine Just Us bring it again on 'Fever'.  Mercer continues his tear, this time remixing Tim Baresko & Clyde P's 'Another'.  Weiss and Secondcity also have some fresh new records out.

  • Things start to get techy with 'Gucci Baggy' by Shaded, out now on the always fierce Desert Hearts.  Jack Back aka Guetta has been rippin it up with the new tech and house releases, and he dropped another one on Defected's DFTD with 'Put Your Phone Down'.  Lastly, after crushing dance floors and Beatport charts alike with 'Hanging Tree', Michael Bibi dropped a new one entitled 'Frequency'.

  • The playlist wraps up with a handful of eclectic tracks from Maya Jane Coles, Sebastian Leger, graves, a Joris Vorn remix of Yotto's 'Walls', and a track off Gesaffeltein's album that just dropped today.

Happy listening.

What up everyone -

New month, new playlist.  Reminder, if you were feeling last month's playlist, you can check it out here.   All past playlists are archived and can be followed.

Now onto this week.  The playlist kicks off with some vibey house feels that progresses into some more traditional house and tech house.  Things get a bit more eclectic in the middle, before some Anjuna style vibes and another heavy batch to close it out.

  • Hot on the heels of a remix of Jai Paul's 'Jasmine' (check it out on my Soundcloud section), mysterious up and comer ilo ilo has another new original out with 'come thru'.  The track follows a familiar formula for ilo ilo, with dreamy vocals and synths sure to make your head nod.

  • Other highlights of the house/tech variety include more new tunes from Block & Crown (two!) and Jack Back who have both been dropping bombs recently, a Fereck Dawn remix of M-22's 'White Lies', and the return of producer/vocalist duo BONNIE x CLYDE.

  • Things start to get a bit funky this week with another track off Gesaffelstein's hotly anticipated Hyperion  LP, this time enlisting vocals from none other than Pharrell Williams on 'Blast Off'.  This one is more trademark Gesaffelstein and gives me some hope for the LP after his last track with The Weeknd massively disappointed his fanbase.  The LP is due out March 8.  Fingers crossed.

  • The eclectic batch continues with a handful of tracks from very different producers.  Electronic stalwarts Digitalism return with a new two-track EP.  Another legend, Four Tet, dropped a driving, tribal-infused heater with KH entitled  'Only Human'.  Rebuke dropped another track ready to destroy dancefloors.  Lastly, KLOUD gives his treatment to the classic Deadmau5 track 'Raise Your Weapon'.  This one is real heavy, but KLOUD is set to smash 2019.  Check out his Instagram for some next level visual content.

  • The Anjuna style block aptly kicks off with a new one from Luttrell who's been on a tear.  Fan favorite Lane 8 dropped another installment of this developmental Root to Branch series.  For those unfamiliar, Lane 8 uses Root to Branch to showcase up and coming talent on his This Never Happened imprint.  The latest batch of talent includes new ones from Ocula, Hexlogic, and Artche, and I included a new one from each.

  • Things get dark and funky to close it out with some serious future and g-house vibes, including new ones from Cazztek and Damien N-Drix, Fedde Le Grand, Black Caviar, Sam Collins, and DONT BLINK.

Happy listening.
