Man, this week is stacked with some proper tunes!

It's a bit of a deeper drop of new music than normal, but don't fret - there's still a solid dose of vibey dance and electronic music. As always, I kick off with a handful of my favorite songs of the week. The playlist builds with some house and techy stuff before taking a deeper dive a tad earlier than usual. Things pick back up with some tempo before settling back into some darker cuts.

This week's new music ends with STRFKR's "Happy Fucking Holidays" - an appropriate finish one week out from Christmas.

**Note: if you're seeing tracks 1&2 from Sonny & MK up top, that is a Wix/Spotify glitch and those are part of a previous week**

Let's get right to it.

  • Out of the gates, three of my favorite releases this week are remixes. Kornél Kovacs takes The Jungle Giants' "In Her Eyes" and gives it a fun, even dancier makeover. krypotgram mellows out Crooked Colours' "Falling", and to commemorate the 5-year anniversary of Jai Wolf's famed "Indian Summer" Foreign Family dished out a remix pack including a particularly tasty one from MEMBA.

  • There were a lot of huge compilation albums this week. Two of my favorite are a pair from Kiosk ID, 43 Katzen tanzen auf'm Tisch - Acidbogen Parts 1 & 2 curated by Berlin-based tastemaker Mira. Part one is filled with a bunch of heat reserved for those longe sunrise sets on the Playa, with a few coming from favorites of mine like Viken Arman and Kerala Dust, and part two feels a bit more suited for the warehouse, with a bunch of quality tunes, and one particular standout from Atish.

  • Sasha & Franky Wah team up for a 5-track EP, Haunted. It's a somewhat unexpected pairing, but the two come together quite fittingly.

  • Disclosure continue to roll out new remixes and edits as part of their ENERGY campaign, and I'm starting to think they're going for some type of record. I included a pair of remixes from a couple of brother duos - The Martinez Bro's remix of "My High" and the Picard Brothers' take on "Watch Your Step".

  • Joey Pecoraro makes some incredibly lush productions, and his latest 5-track EP is no exception.

  • Another compilation for fans of desert beats, LA-based label Hoomidas dropped Hoom Side of the Moon, Pt 1 and I included new ones from Armen Miran & Felix Raphael and Mass Digital.

  • Hot Chip released a fun new remix of Django Django's "Glowing In The Dark".

  • One last big-time release for this week, Dixon & Âme go full throttle on their latest Limbo compilation. If you've never had the pleasure of experiencing these two go B2B, you should change that. But more importantly, there's a reason these guys are two of the most respected track selectors around. Having seen them on several occasions, there are many a time where you're not even sure what you're listening to, or how these guys are making the sounds you're hearing even work together. But they do. And they can do it for 6+ hours with no break. This compilation gives a glimpse into what set from them entails, and while it's not always the most palatable music, I assure you these guys are worth your time.

NOTE: This is the last update for December 2020. The last week of December was rolled into Jan 1, 2021.

December 11, 2020

The end of the year just keeps getting better. This week was one of the best collections of new music in recent memory, with a lot of notable releases. There's honestly so much great music top to bottom that I could write about nearly every track, but I'm gonna focus on what I feel are some standouts.

Let's get right to it.

  • SG Lewis continues his hot streak of vibe-inducing tunes ahead of his forthcoming album, and this latest record "Time" is fantastic.

  • PNAU had one of my favorite albums in recent memory with Changa a few years back, and I'm eager for whatever they're cooking up next. This latest single "River" is a funky, psychedelic-tinged track reminiscent of Changa which hypes me up.

  • Another international group that drops some big-time vibes, L'Impératice is back with another groovy tune, "Anomalie bleue". I suspect they're working up to an album.

  • The Avalanches are back with their first album in nearly 5 years, We Will Always Love You. I Included "The Divine Chord", but these guys really deserve a cover to cover listen.

  • Chris Lake & Armand Van Helden released their 4-track EP The Answer and it packs a punch. Of the three new songs, they float between old-school house sounds and techno-inspired heavy hitters. I included "Dubai Dublin" and "Feel So Good".

  • I threw in a little block of big remixes I want to call out. Ferreck Dawn has been on a tear recently, and this time takes on SIDEPIECE & Diplo's banger "On My Mind". Hayden James delivers on his remix of "Wired" and Gorge drops a whimsical remix of Jan Blomqvist and Oliver Schories' "Packard". The Martinez Bros are back with a somewhat unexpected but very vibey remix of Aluna & KAYTRANADA's "The Recipe", Kyle Watson went big (unsurprisingly) on "Automate", and Vintage Culture keeps cruising in the house lane on his remix of Elderbrook's "Why Do We Shake in the Cold".

  • Arguably the biggest release of this week doesn't come from the electronic lane, but considering he absolutely smashed the Sahara Tent a couple of years back, it felt appropriate to include a track off Kid Cudi's latest album Man on the Moon III. I haven't had a chance to dive fully in, but what I've heard I really F with.

  • A noteworthy release this week comes from an esteemed trio: Burial, Four Tet, and Thom Yorke who dropped a two-track EP Her Revolution / His Rope. I thought this was going to be limited to vinyl, so I was pleasantly surprised when this record hit my release radar.

  • Rising star Channel Tres released his latest effort i can't go outside, a 7-track 'mixtape' aka EP with some major features, including Tyler, the Creator and Tinashe. TBH, not my favorite work from him, and some of the tracks feel more like interludes than songs (perhaps why he deemed the body of work a 'mixtape'), but as a fan of Channel generally, I had to give him a shout.

  • Since there's so much heat this week, I'm gonna call out a handful of other particualrly tasty releases. Pastel drops a juicy, laidback vibe on his album Cereal. Emerging producer NICOLAS brings it on yet another new release, "AFTER DARK". MK does what MK does on his remix of Camelphat & LOWES' "Easier". Melosense creates an instant head nod with his latest track "Explore"on Armada. bad tuner is an artist who recenty caught my attention, and this lastest release "Sourire" is a French laden gem. Justin Martin dropped a new ripper with a classic but beefed up dub feel. I could keep going and going. All in all, just a ton of really quality music this week

Enjoy!!

December 4, 2020

New month, all new playlist. Holy hell does December start out big. I'm pleasantly surprised at how much quality new music is dropping at the end of a year that was otherwise very trash (though... on the music front 2020 has been quite good... if only we could experience it live!).

Let's hope this strong end to 2020 is a good omen for 2021!!

Now, to the tunes.

  • I had to kick-off this week with a project near and dear to me - Forester. Xander & David are an incredibly talented duo, and their new album A Range of Light is nothing but vibes top to bottom. I included three of my personal favs - "Islands", "All My Days", and "Actors" - but the whole collection is worth a listen.

  • TSHA dropped yet another incredibly tasteful remix, this time taking on Kollektiv Turmtrasse's "Rebellion der TräumerX". She can do no wrong in my book.

  • Things start gettin a little hot with Disclosure's latest VIP edition of their song "Watch Your Step". Another big VIP comes from Route 94 on his track "Sad Songs". Gorgon City dropped their latest EP REALM with the addition of "Trapdoor". One of my absolute favorites at the moment and someone I truly can't wait to see live - Michael Bibi dropped a new two-track EP ISOLAT001, which appears to be the first in a series 🤞. "Te amo" is classic Bibi - an incredibly satisfying mix of minimal tech-house and straight-up Latin flair that somehow blends seamlessly together. Such a unique take!

  • Some other hot ones include a new one from Brazilian breakout Vintage Culture & Elise LeGrow on their new house tune on Defected, "It Is What It Is". Maceo Plex dropped a new single that for the first time in a minute, I'm really feeling. I love Maceo Plex, but many of his latest releases have missed the mark for me personally. This latest tune takes one of dance music's most famous samples and gives it a peak underground dance floor makeover. Kaskade goes big on the low-end with Will K on "Flip Reset, and a duo I really f'd with back in the day Tough Love is back with a dirty new one.

  • I change speeds up with bitbird chief San Holo's latest single "bb u ok", taking things briefly into the future bass zone. TOKiMONSTA released the 3rd and final rendition of her album Oasis Nocturno, supplementing the work with a visual piece shot to evoke the mood of 2020 through choreography. I included "Fried for the Night" for some pure brain feeder vibes. Another bitbird release this week comes from newcomer Posij who dishes up a glitchy, synth-heavy debut on the imprint.

  • The vibes are reinvigorated with the help of Hermitude's remix of WHIPPED CREAM's "I Won't Let You Fall". Chromeo is back doing Chromeo things with their new single "On My Mind", and Poolside and NEIL FRANCES combine for an incredibly laid back brain massage.

  • The next bit of the playlist goes in the Nora En Pure / Anjuna direction with the help of none other than... Nora En Pure. Parra for Cuva delivers a lush new production for  Cercle, a label best known for their incredible streaming events. I close out the Nora section with a new one from Yotto on Adriatique’s compilation series Siamese Anthology. There’s a bunch of bangers on there, and I throw in one additional track from Marino Canal, but for the the full effect you can listen to Adriatique’s 45-minute continuous set of all the songs.

  • The last 15 or so tracks ebb and flow a bit, but it’s an all around proper collection of new music. Logic1000 brings it with a textured underground house number. German jokesters Andhim are back with another 2 track EP.  Rising producers Township Rebellion return with another EP as well, this time bringing their heavyweight antics to Desert Hearts Black following a release on Rufus’s Rose Ave Records. DIRTYBIRD stalwarts and creators of all time low-end wonk Walker & Royce are back with another super unique single on “Need2Freek”. DJ Seinfeld also makes a return with an EP packed with unique percussive beats and 80's synth nostalgia.

  • One standout song in this mix comes from Mont Duamel, a newcomer with a super initeresting and ecclectic indie electornic style. Check out "Eyes On You", and if you like that go peep the rest of the EP. Another intersting track in this mix worth a listen if you're into Mont Duamel is Jesper Ryom's "Nights", part of a three track EP out on French imprint and Youtube channel Délicieuse Records.

  • To close out this week I threw in 2 deep house cuts primed for the Playa. The first one is from Sabo off his new album Buddy System, and the last track is PAAX (Tulum)’s latest new jungly number, "Amanares".

Enjoy!!
